RNCM shortlisted for Global Teaching Excellence Award
The RNCM is one of 17 institutions from six countries shortlisted for a Global Teaching Excellence Award.
Presented by Advance HE in association with Times Higher Education, the GTEAs recognise and celebrate institution-wide commitment to the pursuit of teaching excellence. They are open to all providers of higher education across the world, with 2018 attracting interest from institutions based in 41 countries in the six permanently populated continents.
Professor Linda Merrick, Principal, said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to have been shortlisted for this award, which recognises our continued commitment to providing the very best teaching to talented young musicians from all over the world.
‘Placed alongside our Gold ranking in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework, our outstanding outcome in the last Research Excellence Framework and our track record of 100% graduate employment, this nomination is a strong acknowledgement of the dedication and quality of our exceptional staff.’
Svava Bjarnason, Chair of the GTEA 2018 judging panel and a former member of the World Bank Education Sector Board, said: ‘Having chaired the inaugural GTEA judging panel last year, it was an honour to continue in the role in 2018. This year’s entries were of a very high calibre and I congratulate all the 2018 finalists. I’d also like to thank all the institutions that entered; there were some incredibly difficult decisions in selecting the finalists, the Spotlight award winners and the overall winner.’

The GTEA 2018 overall winner will be revealed at an award ceremony held at the iconic venue of The Hub on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile on Wednesday 18 July. The achievements of all finalists will be celebrated at the ceremony. This year for the first time, five of the finalists will also receive a GTEA Spotlight award. These new commendations recognise a particular aspect of an institution’s pursuit of teaching excellence.
