Timothy Ridout is first RNCM/BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Fellow
The RNCM is proud to announce violist Timothy Ridout as its inaugural RNCM/BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Fellow.
The announcement marks 25 years of the BBC New Generation Artists (NGA) scheme, which Timothy was part of from 2019 to 2022. Founded in 1999, the BBC NGA initiative is renowned for nurturing and supporting some of the world’s finest young instrumentalists, singers, and ensembles at the start of their international careers.

In his new position as RNCM/BBC Radio 3 NGA Fellow, Timothy – who is recognised worldwide for his captivating performances as both a solo and chamber musician – will work with RNCM students throughout the 2025-26 academic year in coaching and mentoring sessions, culminating in a concert as part of the RNCM’s Inspirational Artists series, broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
Manus Carey, RNCM Deputy Principal (Performance and Programmes), added: ‘The BBC NGA scheme has a fantastic reputation for supporting exceptional musicians at the start of their careers. It’s wonderful that the RNCM can now build a direct connection with the musicians on this scheme and we are looking forward to working with Tim and BBC Radio 3 in a new partnership that will enhance the training and professional opportunities we provide to our students.’
Today’s news forms part of a larger announcement from BBC Radio 3 as it prepares to celebrate quarter of a century of NGAs with new partnerships, strengthened collaborations, and a day of special programming on Monday 3 March.
Emma Bloxham, BBC Radio 3 Commissioning Editor, Live Music said: ‘It has been 25 years since Radio 3 began supporting the development of outstanding young artists with a dedicated scheme, and it’s a privilege to witness the continuing evolution of the NGAs’ careers. Our distinguished list of alumni now numbers well over 150, the vast majority of whom are major players on the international music scene and very much part of our ever-expanding BBC NGA family. I’m sure audiences will share in the excitement as we celebrate this milestone year, showcasing the history of the scheme through wonderful performances and strengthening our connections with partners across the UK.’
