International Visiting Professor of Bassoon (Senior Tutor)

Starting his musical career as member of the Mahler Chamber orchestra, at the age of 22 Andrea Zucco was appointed Principal Bassoon with the Rome Opera House and since 2006 has been Principal Bassoon with the Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia of Rome.

As Principal Bassoon Andrea Zucco has performed all over the world with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunk, Bayerisches Staatsorchester, La Scala Theatre of Milan, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie. In 2008 he was personally invited by Claudio Abbado to play Strawinsky’s Firebird at the Musikverein of Wien with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. Alongside Claudio Abbado, Andrea works regularly with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Kirill Petrenko, Daniel Harding, Gustavo Dudamel, Daniele Gatti.

As a soloist, Andrea has performed in many festivals, including the National Academy of Santa Cecilia of Rome under Antonio Pappano and the Verdi Festival of Parma. He has presented masterclasses at the Royal Northern College of Music, Sibelius Academy of Helsinki, Conservatoire of Geneva, Hochschule für Musik of Freiburg, Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

He has been invited in the jury of many competitions like the ARD Music competition of Munich (2019).

Since 2015 Andrea has been Professor of Bassoon at the Scuola di musica di Fiesole in Florence.

Andrea joined the staff at the Royal Northern College of Music in September 2020 and from September 2022, Andrea will become RNCM International Visiting Tutor and Senior Bassoon Tutor.
