James Clark

James Clark’s musical career spans five decades of achievement. A chamber musician at heart, he has collaborated with many distinguished musicians, including Stephen Kovacevich, Mikhail Pletnev, Steven Isserlis, Michael Collins, Adrian Brendel and Simon Trpceski, and a member of the Endellion Quartet and the Raphael Ensemble.

James is a recitalist and soloist. His many recordings include Bach and Maxwell Davies Concertos, and Messiaen, Alkan, Brahms, Britten, Bridge and Dvorak Chamber Works. His recording of Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending has been particularly well-received.

James has held Leading positions with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Philharmonia Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also Guest-Led the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Zurich Tonhalle Orchestras.

James has conducted the Philharmonia, BBC NOW and the RSNO, and a series of concerts of the music of the Strauss family with the RLPO. He visited Venezuela several times to teach as part of El Sistema, conducting the Simon Bolivar Orchestra at the invitation of Gustavo Dudamel.

James began his musical career as a chorister at King’s College, Cambridge, and went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London.
