17+ Years Experience in Music and the Arts Industry
With over 17 years of experience in both academia and the popular music industry, Jenn brings a unique blend of academic leadership and practical expertise. As Curriculum Lead for the BMus Popular Music degree at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), she designs and manages a curriculum that reflects current industry trends while fostering in-depth exploration of arts management, leadership, and pedagogy. Jenn also takes on a diverse range of roles, including managing student artists, promoting events, booking performances, overseeing event logistics, and driving content creation and digital marketing strategies.
Currently an external PhD candidate at Erasmus University Rotterdam, her research investigates the impact of culture, pedagogy, and gender in higher popular music education on student well-being, resilience, and career sustainability. As a member of the Rotterdam Popular Music Studies (RPMS) research group, she actively contributes to advancing knowledge in the field.

Jenn’s career began in theatre, having trained at RADA as an actor and vocalist, before transitioning to the music industry as a session musician for The Hoosiers (Sony BMG, 2007). Over the years, she toured across the UK, Europe, and the USA, performing at major festivals and appearing on TV and radio shows such as Popworld, T4, Top of the Pops, and BBC Radio 2.
She also served as an independent record label manager at 25 for Beatroute Records and now serves as an External Examiner for ICMP London, ensuring quality assurance at the higher education level.

Current and Future Research
Research interests align with Higher Popular Music Education culture, pedagogy and well-being, advocacy for women in music, neurodiversity awareness and mental health in the creative industries.
External PhD candidate at Erasmus Univeristy, Rotterdam and a member of the Rotterdam Popular Music Studies (RPMS) research group.
PhD investigates the culture within higher popular music education degree programmes, management and teaching practises, impactors on student well-being and resilience building, with a gendered lens weighing intersections with gender inequalities.
