Susan Bullock, soprano, was born in Cheshire. She studied at the Royal Holloway College, the RAM, and the NOS. She started her career with ENO, for whom she has sung many major roles, most recently as Minnie in Puccini’s Girl of the Golden West. As Strauss’s Elektra she has appeared at the ROH (for which she received the RPS Singers Award in 2009), the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and La Scala, as well as further performances in the USA and Europe. Other Strauss roles include Salome, and Helena at Garsington in the first British performance of Strauss’s Die ägyptische Helena. She has sung Brünnhilde in Tokyo, Toronto, Vienna, Berlin, Frankfurt, Lisbon, Melbourne, Budapest and in all four cycles of the Ring at the ROH in 2012. She has sung Isolde for Frankfurt, Verona, Opera North and ENO. Other ROH roles include Marie in Wozzeck and Elizabeth I in Gloriana. In 2014 she was awarded the CBE for services to opera.
