About

Enjoy an uplifting evening of choral music as Salford Choral performs John Rutter’s joyous Magnificat – a seven-part setting of the biblical canticle – along with two much-loved French miniatures.

Rutter composed Magnificat, also known as the Song of Mary, to be a celebratory and festive piece. It draws in part on Latin American musical themes after he observed joyous Hispanic celebrations of the Virgin Mary on feast days.

Salford’s 90-strong mixed voice choir will also perform two pieces by influential French composer Gabriel Fauré, including the short and graceful Pavane, Opus 50, and the critically acclaimed Cantique de Jean Racine.

The choir will be joined by soprano soloist Sarah Helsby-Hughes and pianist Roderick Barrand; the conductor is Tom Newall
