Finalists from the School of Vocal Studies and Opera perform their own selection of songs and arias in this prestigious annual award.
The competition first began in 1986 as a memorial to one of the leading figures in the founding of the College, Frederic Cox. Principal of the Royal Manchester College of Music from 1953 – 1970, he then joined the newly established RNCM as a vocal tutor before passing away in 1985. Frederic taught a great number of singers who went on to have acclaimed international careers.
Past winners include Sir Simon Keenlyside, Amanda Roocroft, and Kathryn Rudge.
