Carol Jarvis
Name: Carol Jarvis
Role: RNCM Trombone Tutor, Alumna
About: As one of Britain’s most in-demand trombonists, Carol has achieved enormous success since graduating in 2001. She’s toured the world with the likes of Sting and Seal, performed with the UK’s leading orchestras, and presented masterclasses to aspiring young musicians across the globe. Her orchestrations and arrangements have featured on albums at the top of the UK and US charts, been recorded at the famous Capitol Studies in Hollywood and also played at the Oscars. In 2023, Carol becomes the first female President of the International Trombone Association, alongside her role as President of the International Trombone Festival. During her studies, Carol was our Students’ Union President, and it was brilliant to welcome her back recently as a tutor within our School of Wind, Brass and Percussion. She said: ‘I have brilliant memories of studying at the RNCM; we had a lot of fun, and hard work as well, trying to build a career while still doing my undergraduate degree. It was a fantastic experience. You have to be so versatile out in the big wide world these days, and the RNCM is definitely geared up for that now; it’s preparing students for the profession in a different way.’
Did you know? In 2004 Carol was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and had a bone marrow transplant in 2011. In 2016, she received the Beacon of Hope Award from Lymphoma Action for her fundraising and charity work.
