RNCM Pre-Sessional English Course

If your first language isn’t English, you’re required to provide an English certificate that meets the entrance requirements for your programme of study.

If your level of English is slightly below the relevant requirements, you may benefit from attending the RNCM Pre-Sessional English Course.

The RNCM Pre-Sessional Course will help you to:

  • Develop your language and musicology skills.
  • Give you confidence in using English.
  • Enjoy the experience of making new friends before you arrive in the UK.

Please note: Students seeking entry to higher level programmes (MPhil/PhD) must reach a minimum of IELTS 7.0 and, therefore, would not be considered for the Pre-Sessional English Course.

Students with scores that meet the entry requirements of their main programme are not recommended to attend the Pre-Sessional English Course.

You may choose to enrol on a language course at another institution. If you decided to do this, please let us know immediately so that we are aware of the action you are taking to raise your English language level.

Course Content

The Pre-Sessional English Course is designed for students who need time to develop their English language skills and to adjust to living in a new country before their studies start. The course also provides a general introduction to living and studying in Britain. Students who enrol will benefit greatly by being able to develop their English language skills in the context of their new academic environment.

Entrance Requirements

Entry to the Pre-Sessional English Course depends on the necessary requirements for your programme of study. Acceptance will depend on the assessment of your English language results by our Admissions Teams or English Language Support Tutor.

Detailed Requirements for 2022 entry will be published in Spring 2022.

How to Apply

Applications for 2021 entry have closed. Information for 2022 will be published next Spring.
