About

The International Artist Diploma (IAD) represents the highest level of performance achievement at the RNCM, welcoming a select group of exceptional artists each year who are poised to embark on international careers.

In this series, each artist designs a carefully curated programme to highlight their unique talent and artistic vision.

Born in Hong Kong, percussionist Jason Wong is recognised for his technical prowess and command of the stage. He won Second Prize in the 2024 Universal Marimba Competition and First Prize in the 2023 RNCM Gold Medal competition. In 2022, Jason won First Prize in the Croatian International Percussion Competition Rhythm-O-Phonia, culminating in a performance of a new concerto with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra.

Blending live performance, personal narrative, and original visual storytelling, his immersive performance will take audiences on an inspiring journey that explores themes of growth, identity, and aspiration.

About this evening’s programme, Jason writes: ‘The first half explores the self-identity formation from cultural identity, personal grounding, liminal spaces to new creative sounds. The second half shifts towards masterpieces rooted in simplicity: distilled gestures, pure rhythmic structures, and music reduced to its essentials.’
