Following a breathtaking performance for the Manchester Chamber Concerts Series last March, the highly acclaimed Michelangelo Quartet returns with three classics of the quartet repertoire.

Opening with one of Mozart’s ‘Haydn’ quartets, a particularly strong and determined work, they then tackle Shostakovich’s gem, which contains the sort of melodic writing that sets the listener thinking of divine inspiration. Currently in the process of recording the complete Beethoven quartets for Pan Classics, the Quartet end with the composer’s seventh quartet, a turning point which initiated a decisive break from accepted compositional rules.
