RNCM Professorships for Top Brass Musicians

Two leading figures in the world of brass have been granted the title of Professor (Personal Chair) by the RNCM.

Steven Mead, a Tutor in Euphonium and Baritone Horn (pictured), and Dr Nicholas Childs, Principal Conductor and Musical Director of Black Dyke Band, both received the honour last month in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the profession and to the work of the College.

Talking of his new title Steven said: ‘This is a great honour from the RNCM. I have made the 100 mile journey to Manchester every week for 24 years and have enjoyed every minute of my time there. I have been privileged to work with some of the finest young talents in the low brass world during this time, and I sincerely hope to continue to do so for many years to come.’ While Nicholas commented: ‘To be awarded a professorial title is a great honour and I, along with Black Dyke Band, look forward to contributing to exciting new projects at the RNCM.’

The RNCM prides itself of offering exceptional tuition and performance opportunities to brass students from all over the world. In September, this will enhance further with the launch of the brand new Philip Jones Centre for Brass.
