Why should I attend Discover RNCM?
It’s a great way for you to experience the environment in which you will be studying. You can also view our facilities and the accommodation available at Sir Charles Groves Hall of Residence, as well as receiving advice and information on the application process, wellbeing, and fees and funding. Alongside this, you will have opportunities to meet staff and students and ask any questions you may have.
Where are you located?
We are one mile south of Manchester City Centre, on the corner of Oxford Road and Booth Street West. You can find out more by visiting our Getting Here webpage, which includes a map of our location, as well as detailed information on how to get here via car or public transport. What will happen on the day?
Registration opens at 9am and sessions run between 10am and 4.45pm. During that time, you will be able to:
- Tour our building, view our facilities, and visit Sir Charles Groves Hall of Residence
- Watch student performances
- Discover more about our courses and the opportunities they provide
- Chat to current students about what it’s like to live and study in Manchester
- Attend activities specific to your principal study
- Speak to staff about admissions, fees, funding and the wellbeing support available.

Is there a minimum age requirement to attend Discover RNCM?
No. While Discover RNCM is suited to prospective applicants aged 16 and over, under 16s are welcome to attend, but should be accompanied by an adult.
Am I able to bring someone with me to Discover RNCM?
Yes. When registering, you can include them in the number of places required. Under 16s should be accompanied by an adult.
Do I need to bring my instrument or anything else with me to Discover RNCM?
No, you don’t need to bring anything with you. On arrival, you will be provided with a Discover RNCM booklet with full details of the day.
My train arrives into Manchester quite early. Is it OK to come into the College before registration opens?
Registration opens at 9am. If you arrive earlier than this, there are plenty of excellent cafes and coffee shops in the surrounding area. Our students will also be performing at Piccadilly and Oxford Road train stations, so we recommend spending some time watching them.
What should I do if I am running late?
No problem. Our registration desk will remain in place throughout the day.
I am interested in more than one School of Study, how can I get information about different Schools?
We would encourage you to split your time between the different School-specific activities in the afternoon. You are welcome to leave sessions part-way through to join another. Student Ambassadors will be on hand to direct you. You will also be able to chat to staff and students throughout the day, who will answer any questions you may have.
I am a prospective Graduate School student. Is Discover RNCM relevant to me?
Yes. We welcome both prospective undergraduate and Graduate School visitors. There is a session which specifically covers the Graduate School programmes.
What food and drink options will be available during the day?
Complimentary refreshments will be available throughout the day. From midday, we will also serve a hot food menu. We are delighted to offer you a discount of 30% off hot food items from the menu and further discounts across the full range in the Café.
Will I have chance to speak to current students?
Yes. We will have a friendly team of Student Ambassadors from all Schools of Study available for you to speak with throughout the day.
Are there opportunities to provide my feedback on Discover RNCM?
Yes. We will send you a survey to complete after Discover RNCM, where you will have the chance to share your opinions and views of the day with us. By completing the survey you will be entered into a prize draw with the chance to win a £50 voucher.
