Uta Weyand (Germany)

Uta Weyand was born into a musical family and throughout her childhood expressed extraordinary musical talent both with the piano and the violin.

After studying in Freiburg, Baltimore and Madrid with Elza Kolodin, Vitaly Margulis, Leon Fleisher and Joaquín Soriano, Uta gave numerous solo recitals and concerts with orchestras in Europe, Brazil and Cuba, Russia, and USA with conductors such as Jesús López Cobos, José Ramón Encinar, Enrique García Asensio, Manuel Galduf, Marc Tardue, Daniel Raiskin and Yves Abel.

In 1996, Uta won first prize in the José Iturbi International Piano Competition in Valencia with special prizes for the best interpretation of Spanish music. Since then, her repertoire has encompassed all musical epochs from baroque to contemporary. She is a passionate interpreter of the Spanish piano repertoire. She dedicates herself to unknown or neglected piano works and has worked closely with Michael Braunfels and Xavier Montsalvatge.

She gives masterclasses and conferences in Europe, Brazil, Cuba, and Asia. In 2000, Uta joined the faculty of the Conservatori Superior de Música de Castelló, and from 2002 until 2011 she was a faculty member at the Madrid Royal Conservatory. Uta is regularly a jury member of international piano competitions including the Gina Bachauer in Salt Lake City, Franz Liszt in Weimar, Hamamatsu in Japan, Van Cliburn in Texas, Grieg Competition in Bergen and The Sydney in Australia.

Uta is the founder and managing director of the PIANALE International Academy & Competition, also managing the annual PIANALE Piano Festival in Germany, which provides young musicians with a high-standard performance platform.

Her recordings for Hänssler Classics, Profil Medien and ARS Produktion received rave reviews.
