2018/19 programme of external conducting courses

The RNCM has announced its annual programme of external conducting courses. Led by RNCM conducting staff Mark Heron and Clark Rundell, these events provide world class development opportunities for conductors at all levels.

There are two strands. The masterclass programme comprises a weekend in November, a new course for choral conductors in February with David Hill, a two-day course in February, and culminates with a three-day courses in April in partnership with Manchester Camerata. Aimed at conductors with some experience, these courses attract applicants from all over the world.

The second strand is aimed at music educators working with youth orchestras, bands and ensembles. This course enables participants to develop their technical and artistic skills with a specific focus on working with young musicians, and operates over three workshops (October, January and February) with an e-learning component between the practical sessions.

Mark Heron, says: ‘At the RNCM we are very proud of our conducting courses, both for full-time students and the various short courses that we run. The masterclass programme is long established and has unearthed some outstanding talents. I’m also very conscious of the outstanding work done by music educators throughout the UK, and we’re delighted to be able to continue this new course which focuses specifically on the skills needed to work with young musicians. We are also delighted to welcome David Hill, one of the world’s outstanding choral conductors, to the team. His new course in February promises to be extremely popular.’
