Cellist Abel Selaocoe Wins ROSL ARTS Overseas Award
Congratulations to postgraduate cellist Abel Selaocoe, winner of the 2017 Royal Over-Seas League Arts Overseas Award.
Accompanied by alumnus Tyler Hay (winner of last year’s Keyboard Section Final), the fantastic win comes just two days after Abel also secured victory in the ROSL Arts Mixed Ensemble Award with his group, Kabantu.
The ROSL Annual Music Competition is the centrepiece of ROSL ARTS’ year-round programme of events. The competition offers more than £70,000 in awards with a £10,000 first prize (the Gold Medal) for solo performers and two chamber ensemble awards of £10,000. The winners of the Wind and Percussion, Singers, Strings, and Keyboard solo sections and the Accompanist Prize receive £5,000 each, and the winner of the Overseas Award receives £3000.
As in previous years, 2017 has been particularly successful for RNCM students. Alongside Kabantu’s win earlier this week, fourth year pianist Dominic Degavino won the Keyboard Section Final and now has a chance to perform for the Gold Medal in June.
