Popular Music students go viral with Cian Ducrot

Popular Music students have been performing with singer song-writer Cian Ducrot in a collaboration that has resulted in them appearing on two singles to support the release of his debut album Victory.

I’ll Be Waiting – Choir Version was released in March while the video for Part of Me, featuring choir and orchestra, was shared just last week. It’s a journey that began in our home city of Manchester and has seen them perform together on stage in London as part of the singer’s Victory world tour.

The students, all aged 18-22, first worked with Cian on a performance in the Gala Pool of Manchester’s iconic Victoria Baths, the film of which has gone viral (above). Cian enjoyed working with the choir so much that he invited them to perform with him again in a series of flash-mobs around Manchester city centre, including at Victoria Station and on a Metrolink tram.

Mali Aitchison, Georgina Clarke, Jack Critchlow, Jack Cox, Caitlin Eastham, Owen Edwards, Hetta Falzon, Mhairi Hamilton, Keara Koterwas, Roise McHugh, Marleen Mihkelsoo, Evieanna Mullane, Hamish Oglivy, Sam Pendrill, Effi Stylianou, Anna Willison-Holt and Bart Zagame, are all studying on our Popular Music programme. Their collaborations with Cian have been creating quite a stir, amassing over 500 million views across digital platforms including Tiktok and Instagram.

Vocal student Jack Critchlow, says: ‘Working with Cian has been an incredibly rewarding experience. From recording live videos, to flash mobs around Manchester and even getting to perform with him at KOKO, London, we have gained many first time experiences as musicians and artists that have taught us so much about the current music industry.’

Fellow student Rosie McHugh added, ‘I have loved the experience of being in the choir working with Cian Ducrot. It has been my first experience of doing backing vocal work and not only is this great experience for me, it has also given us all a huge insight into the behind the scenes of an artist. It has been really cool working on the social media content and seeing the growth of that online, alongside filming live videos, studio recording, and even performing with him at his show in KOKO, London – which was definitely a highlight!’

Popular Music Vocal Tutor, Wayne Ellington, says, ‘It’s fantastic to see our talented students get recognition by major artists in the industry. And it is an incredible learning opportunity for our students.’
