RNCM announces new Director of Finance

We’re delighted to announce the appointment of George Whalley as our new Director of Finance.

Since 2015 George has worked at HOME, Manchester’s centre for contemporary arts, first as Director of Finance and then as Director of Finance and Operations. Prior to this he was Head of Finance at The University of Manchester’s Alliance Business School.

In his role at the RNCM, George will assume leadership and over-arching responsibility for the College’s financial strategy, overseeing the Finance and Registry Departments and the Business Systems Development Unit.

George said: ‘I am incredibly excited to be joining the Royal Northern College of Music as Director of Finance. The RNCM brings together my experience and passion for both higher education and the performing arts. I have always enjoyed visiting the College, so being able to join the team at such a prestigious Manchester institution is a fantastic opportunity.’

Professor Linda Merrick, Principal, added: ‘We are thrilled to be welcoming George to the role of Director of Finance. As we launch our new strategic plan, it is a very exciting time to be joining the College and I am looking forward to working with him as the RNCM further enhances its position as a leading provider of music education.’

Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte LLP, George is also a Trustee and Treasurer of two Manchester-based charities: Young Manchester, which commissions youth and play work in the City, and Quarantine, an innovative theatre and performing arts company. He will take up his new role on 18 February 2020.
