RNCM and MMU Award First Joint PhD

Danielle Sirek is the first RNCM student to be awarded a PhD under the RNCM-MMU joint doctoral programme.

Danielle, who moved to the UK from Ontario, Canada, to complete the three year course, was awarded the qualification following her viva. Her dissertation ‘Music and Identity Construction in Grenada: A Music Education Perspective’ spans the fields of music education and ethnomusicology, and was supervised by Dr Felicity Laurence and Dr Byron Dueck.

Sixteen students, including Danielle, are currently registered on the RNCM’s Postgraduate Research Degree programme, which launched in 2009/10.
