RNCM welcomes visit from music legend Nile Rodgers

It was a privilege to welcome legendary guitarist Nile Rodgers to the RNCM on Friday 17 September.

The CHIC co-founder, who was awarded an RNCM Honorary Professorship alongside industry expert Merck Mercuriadis last year, is recognised as one of the most talented and influential musicians, songwriters and producers in the world.

During the visit he took a tour of the building, including our new Studio 8, and heard students on our Popular Music programme perform in Studio 1.

Nile said: ‘It’s a great highlight of my life to be have been honored with a professorship at the RNCM so to be able to spend an afternoon there with the faculty and the students was wonderful. They are doing tremendous work that I’m sure we will all be ‘hearing’ about for years to come.’

Petra van den Houten, Head of Major Gifts, said: ‘It was absolutely thrilling to receive Nile Rodgers, Honorary Professor at the Royal Northern College of Music, last week. I could not think of a better way to start the academic year and it has been very inspiring for all. Our students were naturally surprised to perform for him but had the time of their lives.’
