International Visiting Tutor in Trombone

Bass Trombonist Brandt Attema performs as a soloist, in chamber music and in orchestra’s all over the world. He is a regular member of the ‘Netherlands Wind Ensemble’, ‘Slide Monsters’ – a trombone quartet that connects Classical and Jazz music, the ‘New Trombone Collective and the first Bass Trombone and Harp duo worldwide with harpist Astrid Haring.

He was a member of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra from 1999 till 2019 and since 2019 has been the trombone professor at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe.

As a freelance musician he plays in many international orchestras and ensembles.

Brandt has a great interest in extending the repertoire for bass- and contra-bass trombone. He invites composers to write new repertoire, borrow repertoire from other instruments to perform on his basses, adds his instruments to unexpected combinations and inspires his students to discover their own possibilities with their own trombones.
