Graham, principal bassoonist of the Hallé Orchestra, studied at the Royal Academy of Music (1972-75) with Gwydion Brooke and later with Klaus Thunemann in Germany while holding positions in two opera house orchestras from 1975-81. He has appeared as guest principal bassoonist with many orchestras including the London Symphony, Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, BBC Philharmonic, BBC Scottish, Welsh National Opera and the English National Opera. He has also given recitals and master classes as far afield as Tokyo, Hong Kong and Turkey.
Graham has premiered several works and released a number of recordings. He teaches at the RNCM, Manchester University and Chetham’s School of Music and is an adjudicator and examiner for various institutions including the Associated Board. Graham is also the Sole Representative for Püchner Bassoons.
