Kathryn is a versatile flutist and researcher. She holds degrees from RNCM and the University of Huddersfield, where she completed her PhD focusing on the visibility of breathing in flute performance practice and composition. Her project “Coming Up for Air” creatively addresses overcoming chronic respiratory conditions by inviting composers to create pieces limited to a single breath, garnering international acclaim and performances. A selection of these works has been released on Huddersfield Contemporary Records, with plans for a concerto adaptation by Larry Goves to debut with the Luxembourg Philharmonic. Kathryn is a member of contemporary music ensemble House of Bedlam and she freelances with orchestras across the UK. Beyond her artistic endeavors, Kathryn advocates for safer and more equitable music workplaces, notably through her work with the Independent Society of Musicians and co-authoring reports on discrimination in the music sector.
