Paul studied at the Royal Academy of Music and, on graduating, joined the Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet Orchestra in 1979. He then joined the BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra (since renamed the BBC Philharmonic) in 1981 and later was offered the post of Principal Percussionist,a post he has held for over 20 years. In addition to his busy schedule with the BBC Philharmonic, he is Head of Percussion at Chetham’s School of Music, operates his own percussion hire business, Patrick Percussion and also teaches at the University of Manchester. In 1997 Paul was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
