About

Part of Inspirational Artists

Written and directed by Liza Bec, The End Times is an apocalyptic coming of age tale featuring a magical musical blackboard and a theatrical soundscape, with one foot in the supernatural and one foot in science.  This hour-long staged performance brings together live electroacoustic music, movement, and spoken word. At the centre are three large blackboards transformed into an audio-visual modular synthesizer alongside live wind, percussion, and organ.

The End Times began as a book by Bec, then evolved into an album, and now takes shape as a theatre piece. The music – released under the same title – inhabits a unique space between jazz, classical, and world traditions, combining acoustic instruments, electronic textures, and spiritual undertones. The result is a compelling musical tale that unfolds across multiple dimensions.

Liza Bec is an award winning contemporary performer, composer, producer, lyricist, and multimedia narrative author.

After being awarded the cross-disciplinary Fusion Fund by Help Musicians UK to create a narrative audiovisual work, they built their own instrument, the roborecorder. The roborecorder is featured in the Museum of Science and Industry’s touring exhibition Turn It Up: The Power of Music, currently on display in London and was inducted into the BBC Radio 6 museum by Lauren Laverne. Liza was chosen to showcase the roborecorder at Classical: NEXT 2024 in Berlin supported by the PRS International Showcase Fund. Their work has been featured in New Scientist and Insider magazines.

Our Inspirational Artists series is graciously support by The Haworth Trust.
