Embodied Sounds

This event explores unusual connections between instruments and the body through a sequence of performances and interactive exhibitions. This will include music that changes as you sing while eating the score; flute pieces limited to a single breath; music performed while and transformed by unusual activities or extreme exercise; music made from ruined instruments and music that explores the way people interact as they perform. Part of Being Human Festival 2018 and in association with the RNCM’s Experimental & Exploratory Music Research Centre, this event includes music from James Saunders, Larry Goves, Caludia Molitor, Annie Hui-Hsin Hsieh, Kathryn Williams, Mark Dyer and Bofan Ma performed by The House of Bedlam. This event also marks the launch of Music, analysis and the body: Experiment, explorations, and embodiments a new collection of essays edited by RNCM Head of Undergraduate Studio Nicholas Reyland with Rebecca Thumspston and published this year by Peeters.

Composition Assessment/Examination Recalibration and Discussion Symposium

This one day event, free and open to all interested parties, is an open forum to discuss composition/creative practice assessment in higher education. The day is funded by the Royal Northern College of Music and the National Association for Music in Higher Education. Final date for registration is the 9th of November.

A concert of music that problematises the idea of assessment with music performed and composed by RNCM Students and others. Includes a performance by guest composer/perfomer Andy Ingamells.
