RNCM Showcase

The RNCM is committed to creating industry ready musicians through our degrees in Popular Music and Young Artists initiative for under 18s.

At the RNCM Showcase, hosted by Young Artists inaugural sponsors Sony Music UK at their London headquarters in March, students from both programmes were invited to perform for guests from all areas of the music business.

Undergraduate artists were pianist, singer-songwriter and 2023 CASIO Sessions winner May Payne; soul and jazz singer-songwriter Daisy Cameron; three-piece alt-pop band and founders of Manchester’s RedRoom event Sister Grace; and innovative pop musician Nadeem Shakir.

Representatives from RNCM Young Artists, which forms part of our award-winning series of free and subsidised projects for young people, were bands Harmonix, Social Contract and Tom Foolerz.

Support Young Artists

Today, against the backdrop of underfunding of music education in state schools, the work of RNCM Engage is more vital than ever as we strive to narrow the gap between talent and opportunity for under 18s.

RNCM Young Artists is the latest addition to our Engage programme, providing creative young people with incredible opportunities to explore their talent and reach their potential. The weekly two-hour sessions take place every Saturday during term time, and include lessons with professional RNCM tutors and musicians with additional support from student and alumni mentors.

To date, the RNCM is the only conservatoire in the UK to provide specialised training of this kind. So far, almost 100 young people aged 11-18 have joined the programme, which has already successfully seen participants progress from Young Artists to our Popular Music undergraduate degree.

Philanthropy and sponsorship truly make projects like RNCM Young Artists possible and we would like to thank Sony Music UK for supporting the initiative and championing diversity across the industry through its Social Justice Fund.
