Guide to Leaving a Gift in Your Will

By including the RNCM in your will, you are joining our community of supporters.

You’ll receive regular updates and invitations, which we hope will give you great pleasure, grow your involvement in College life and give you an understanding of how your future gift will make a significant difference to the RNCM and our students.

You can decide what type of gift you want to leave us:

  • Residuary gift – you leave the remainder of your estate, or a percentage of it, once family and friends have been provided for.
  • Pecuniary or cash gift – you can specify an amount of money that will directly support the College and our students.
  • Other types of gifts – you can also make a gift of land, buildings, personal property (such as antiques or jewellery), shares or securities.

All legacy gifts are held safely in our charity fund:

Royal Northern College of Music Endowment Fund. 124 Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9RD. Registered Charity No: 504949

We can direct your gift to a specific area of work that would mean most to you. Alternatively, you can leave an open gift, enabling us to direct support to where it is needed most, providing the College with long term financial resilience and the flexibility to respond to the most urgent needs of our students.

How to leave a legacy gift

Leaving a gift in your will is easy to do, although we advise that anyone considering making a gift should use the services of a solicitor or financial advisor. If you have already written your will and would like to add a gift to the RNCM, you do not need to re-write your will, you can simply complete a codicil to add a gift. We have included some suggested wording below, which you may find helpful:

I give to the Royal Northern College of Music (an exempt charity and Higher Education Corporation under the terms of the Education Reform Act 1988), 124 Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9RD (“the Charity”) the sum of £___ /or ___% of my estate. I express the wish (but without imposing any legal obligation) that the money be used for _____. I declare that the receipt of the Development Director or other appropriate officer for the time being of the Charity shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Executors.

As a registered charity, the RNCM pays no tax on gifts in wills. Any gift in will you leave to the College is exempt from inheritance tax and may reduce the inheritance tax payable on your estate.
