Undertaking paid work at the RNCM as a student

Many students can earn extra money during their studies by undertaking work with us.

This could be in our Catering or Front of House teams, as Student Ambassadors, or for one-off performance engagements.

However, before you apply, it’s important that you understand what’s involved so that you’re in a position to start when needed.

Right to work

Payment for work at the RNCM must be paid for via our payroll and there is a legal requirement for us to see evidence of your right to work in the UK before you start any jobs or projects.

The great thing is that if you think you’ll take up paid opportunities while you’re with us, we can do a quick right to work check during Welcome Week. Please look out for a desk where a member of our HR team will be happy to help and answer any questions you might have.

How do I show that I have the right to work in the UK?

UK and Irish Citizens: The easiest document to provide is your passport – a member of staff will be available during enrolment to take a copy of your passport. Alternative acceptable documents can be found here.

Non-UK and Irish Citizens: The first thing you need to do is get a share code online. Once you have this, please email the code and your date of birth to [email protected] in advance of Welcome Week. The team will then arrange to verify the photograph when you arrive.

What happens next?

When you undertake your first paid work, the RNCM employee who employed you will let our HR team know so that they can send you a link to complete the information we need to ensure you’re added to our payroll. Once you have completed this you will be sent an employee ID number and details of how to access any payslips via our self-service portal.
