MASSED SAXOPHONE ORCHESTRA
The day begins with our popular massed playing session. Parts will be available for all levels, including easier parts for less experienced players. Bring your instruments along and join in!

WORKSHOPS
Choose from one of the following options:
OPTION 1 with Ruth Bourn and Gilly Blair
Join Junior RNCM tutors Ruth and Gilly to play through a selection of arrangements and compositions for large saxophone group. Aimed at players of all ages and abilities.
OPTION 2 with Naomi Sullivan
Naomi will work on John Cage’s only saxophone ensemble piece, Four5. All you’ll need is a mobile phone/stopwatch and some curiosity into Cage’s very approachable and creative world. Aimed at any level of playing.
OPTION 3 with Rob Cope
Rob will teach you famous brass lines from tunes such as Boogie Wonderland, September and Superstition, with the original horn parts removed from the audio for you to play along. This class is fully notated.
OPTION 4 with Carl Raven
Have you ever wondered why it is so hard to play quietly in the low range of the saxophone? Why does the saxophone still play out of tune even after everyone has tuned up? In this workshop, you’ll explore how to practise and develop a consistent classical saxophone sound.
OPTION 5 with Andy Scott
Join Andy as he directs a large saxophone ensemble plus rhythm section through some of his popular Group S charts. Featuring Lip Service, Don’t Shoot the Duck and Early Hours. Improvising is optional.

Choose from one of the following options:
OPTION 1 with Timothy McAllister and Liz Ames
Timothy and Liz make up one of the most successful contemporary classical saxophone and piano duos in the world. They’ll discuss the art of playing in a duo, commissioning new work, instigating projects, and recordings. Hosted by Andy Scott.
OPTION 2 with Naomi Sullivan
An opportunity to explore the many extended techniques possible on the saxophone and workshop ways of practising them. Naomi and her students will give demonstrations and discuss possibilities of how extended techniques successfully fit into the real world of music.
OPTION 3 with Carl Raven
‘What do all those chord symbols mean?’. Carl will cover getting around the changes, deciphering the code and understanding what the rhythm section are doing.
OPTION 4 with Rob Cope
Group S member Rob takes you through some of Andy Scott’s charts, as well as some of his own compositions for the group. This is a practical class for people who would like to come and play their saxophone, improvising is optional.
