The Frederic Cox Award for Singing

Discover the world of classical singing and join our finalists as they perform their own selection of songs and arias.
This annual competition first began in 1986 as a memorial to one of the leading figures in the founding of the College, Frederic Cox. Principal of of the Royal Manchester College of Music from 1953 – 1970, he then joined the newly established RNCM as a vocal tutor before passing away in 1985. Frederic taught a number of singers who went on to have acclaimed careers, including Anne Howells, Elizabeth Harwood, Rosalind Plowright, and Ann Murray.
Past winners of this competition include Simon Keenlyside, Amanda Roocroft, and Kathryn Rudge.

This event will include a 20-minute interval and will end at approximately 9.30pm.
