RNCM announces new partnership with Peak Sinfonia of Hong Kong

The RNCM is pleased to announce a new professional partnership with the Peak Sinfonia of Hong Kong (PSHK).

Newly established in 2024, the PSHK is a UK conservatoire training orchestra based in Hong Kong dedicated to developing exceptional musicians in preparation for progression into higher education.

Working in partnership with the RNCM, successful candidates from the region will embark on a 12-month programme of orchestral training that includes online lessons and coaching with RNCM professors, and rehearsals with PSHK artistic director Stephen Lam.

The programme also offers three public performances each year, including a substantial project featuring RNCM staff, senior students and alumni, and a summer tour of the UK with concerts in Manchester and London.

Alongside their practical training, candidates will also receive guidance on applying to study at a UK conservatoire.

Professor Linda Merrick CBE, RNCM Principal, said: ‘We are delighted that the RNCM is developing this important partnership with the Peak Sinfonia of Hong Kong. The work will prove invaluable to young musicians aspiring to study at conservatoire level.’

Stephen Lam, PSHK Artistic Director added, ‘I’m thrilled that young musicians from Hong Kong can now benefit from expert training delivered in partnership with the RNCM. They will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of Western music traditions through this collaboration.’

Applications for the inaugural programme are now open for strings players.
