We’re delighted to welcome our International Chair in Choral Conducting, David Hill, to conduct an evening of exceptional music.

There’s something so compelling about the harmonious interplay and layering of voices in choral music, and Bach understood this on a profound level. He creates deep emotional and spiritual expression in his music through his technical mastery of text setting, counterpoint, and harmony. Lobet Gott in seinen Reichen or ‘The Ascension Oratorio’ is both a grand and intricate affair that follows the sacred Christian story of Jesus’ Ascension.

Should we be surprised then that Mozart was studying the works of Bach when he wrote his Great Mass in C minor? Draped in mystery, the work was only partially complete when he died. Yet, it remains one of Mozart’s most ambitious and virtuosic compositions, breaking the mould of ‘church’ music and unleashing a powerful journey through dark emotions and glittering fireworks.
