About

A custodian of tradition with a passion for innovation, award-winning sitarist Jasdeep Singh Degun celebrates two years as our first RNCM Innovate Fellow with a special concert.

Blending Indian and Western classical traditions, Jasdeep showcases his groundbreaking work with RNCM students, exploring the expressive power of the Indian raag and its ability to tell stories through melody and improvisation.

Highlights include an excerpt from Jasdeep’s innovative opera Orpheus, premièred with Opera North in 2022, with Indian vocalist Kaviraj Singh. They’ll also join students to perform one of Jasdeep’s most recent compositions, Lament, a piece that brings together Indian voices with choir and strings.

Offering an exciting insight into the fusion of musical traditions, expect a rich programme of ensemble performances and collaboration at its best.
