The initiative recognises specific financial challenges facing freelancers in the creative industries, including managing irregular income and navigating complex tax requirements.

Developed alongside software designer Tim Metcalfe, the resultant app will enable users to track income and expenses seamlessly, offering an efficient way to organise financial records for annual tax returns.

The app is tailored to the needs of RNCM students and graduates, who will have free access, while also being commercially available to a wider audience.

This initiative reflects RNCM’s broader commitment to equipping its graduates for successful freelance careers while contributing to the creative economy. It links directly to RNCM’s award-winning StART Entrepreneurship Project that helps students to develop the necessary skills and real-world experience to build successful and sustainable careers.

The development of the RNCM Finance App features direct involvement of RNCM students, who participate in focus groups and prototype testing.

The app’s first iteration is to be evaluated through user feedback, and, in particular, through a survey of RNCM students. The feedback collected will greatly inform the continued evolution of the app, ensuring its potential to become an indispensable resource for creative professionals across the industry.
