Jackie Jaekyung Yoo

Pianist Jackie Jaekyung Yoo is known for performances that excite the audience with her virtuosic vivacity and emotional warmth. Her repertoire spans from early Baroque music to contemporary music; her performance of complete Book 1 Etudes by Ligeti has won acclaim by such distinguished artists as Martha Argerich.

As a prizewinner of nearly thirty international competitions (including the Bösendorfer International Piano Competition, the Jaén International Piano Competition, International Piano Competition “Chopin Roma,” and Ricard Vines International Piano Competition), Jackie has performed worldwide at festivals such as the Bebersee Festival in Germany, PyeongChang Music Festival in Korea, International Gümüslük Classical Music Festival in Turkey among many others. Jackie has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Manchester Camerata, Symphony Orchestra of Croatian Radio and Television, Phoenix Symphony, and the Orquestra Simfonica del Valles.

Also an accomplished ensemble pianist, Jackie has appeared live on radio broadcasts (e.g. “In Tune” on BBC Radio 3) as part of Duo Yoo + Kim, an award-winning team that has won critical acclaim for the recitals at the United Nations in Geneva and at Sommets-Musicaux Gstaad in Switzerland.

Born in South Korea, Jackie began playing the piano at age 3 and soon afterwards won several national competitions.

Shortly after enrolling at the Seoul National University, she moved to Germany to continue her studies with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Matti Raekallio, Vladimir Krainev, and Markus Groh at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, where she received postgraduate degrees (Diplom) in Solo Performance and Music Education as well as the Concert Artist Diploma (Konzertexamen). She also holds an International Artist Diploma from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK, where she studied with Graham Scott.

Jackie is currently based in Germany and teaches at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover.
