Knowledge Exchange

Knowledge exchange (KE), defined by UK Research and Innovation as ‘the wide range of activities [higher education providers] undertake with partners’ is at the heart of all activities at the RNCM.

This might take the form of students performing in public concerts serving local, national, and international audiences; pre-tertiary school children participating in workshops, summer schools, and short courses; and staff sharing research, performances, and compositions with communities around the world.

The Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) sits alongside Research England’s Research Excellence Framework and Teaching Excellence Framework. It is an annual exercise benchmarking HEPs’ performance in KE activities and is measured through seven perspectives. To see recent RNCM engagement in these areas, visit the KEF3 dashboard.

These include research partnerships; collaborations with the public and third sector organisations, and with regional, national, and international businesses; contributions to local growth and regeneration; public and community engagement activities; professional and development opportunities around entrepreneurial skills training, intellectual property and commercialisation.
