What’s the most interesting/unique thing you’ve been involved with since being at RNCM?

Over the summer holiday after my second year, I was given an opportunity to perform and teach at 6 different Dulwich College International Schools in China, South Korea and Singapore. This was a fascinating experience for me as it gave me a taste of what it is like to be a touring concert pianist and I gained an invaluable experience in teaching.

What kinds of opportunities are there for students?

Students at RNCM can benefit from any opportunity of any kind! Within the Keyboard department, there are regular masterclasses from world-famous teachers and pianists, internal competitions, weekly performance classes as well as teaching opportunities. I’m one half of a piano duo and we’ve performed both internally at RNCM Chamber Music Festival and also externally. There are also chances to do more imaginative projects. For example, my piano duo and another duo joined together to perform works for 8 hands on two pianos as part of the Spotlight Series which was incredibly fun! I am also the Student Representative for the Keyboard department which has provided me a different sort of learning experience outside music making.

What’s your favourite thing about being a student at RNCM?

My favourite thing about being a student at RNCM is the incredible amount of support I get from the College. RNCM recognises the different needs and aspirations of each individual student and will support every one of us in the right way. This creates the particular family-like atmosphere within the college which I think is one of the biggest assets of the institution.

What are your future aspirations?

Since I was 12 I have always wanted to be a teacher and this still hasn’t changed. However for now, I want to continue to improve my piano playing – performing as much as I can and gaining as much experience in anything that would enrich my ultimate aspiration.

Victor completed his MMus at the RNCM and graduated in 2017.
