Entrance Requirements for International Applicants

International applicants must meet the academic, English language and age requirements outlined below:

Academic Requirements

Undergraduate: Undergraduate applicants will need to provide evidence of university-entry level education e.g. A levels, International Baccalaureate, Chinese High School Diploma. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age on 31 December in the year of entry.

Graduate School: Postgraduate applicants should normally possess (or be about to complete) a qualification equivalent to a UK Bachelor’s Degree (Hons).

Candidates for our MMus course may also be required to submit an example of their written work (in English) alongside their academic qualifications/transcripts, so that we can complete an academic assessment.

If you are unsure whether your qualifications are suitable, please contact a member of our Admissions Team (admissions@rncm.ac.uk) who will be happy to assist.

For further information, please view our General Entrance Requirements.

English Language Requirements

Most applicants whose first language is not English will be required to submit an ‘Academic’ International English Language Testing System (IELTS) certificate, as evidence of their English language proficiency. Your test should be from a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Approved Test Provider.

Applicants who have received a qualification (equivalent to a UK Bachelor’s Degree) in a majority English speaking country, may be exempt. For an up-to-date list of exemptions, please visit UKVI.

Please ensure that a copy of the IELTS certificate reaches our Admissions Team (admissions@rncm.ac.uk) by 1 April. You will be required to bring the original certificate to enrolment.

Pre-Sessional English Course

Where an applicant’s IELTS score is marginally below that indicated, entry may still be possible with extra language support offered through our Pre-Sessional English Course. There is a minimum English requirement for the course.

The RNCM Pre-Sessional English Course is designed for students who need extra time to develop the necessary language skills before embarking on the rigours of an RNCM course of study. The course also provides an introduction to Britain and British culture, allowing students to become accustomed to the context of their new academic environment. The course aims are:

  • To develop and build confidence in using general English language skills through listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  • To develop the academic literacy necessary for students following an academic course at the RNCM.
  • To prepare students for independent learning.
  • To introduce aspects of British life and culture through visits to places of local interest.

Please note: the 2019 Pre-Sessional English Language Programme application form will be available to download from Spring 2019.
