Musical Life

Here we get a glimpse of the musical life during the Great War, with concert programmes from the Royal Manchester College of Music, the Hallé Orchestra and from the edge of the Battlefield. We also read Hope Squires letters to her husband Frank Merrick (a composer and pianist imprisoned as a conscientious objector) about musical and civilian life at this time, and Olga Skadowsky’s letters to her sister, Anna Brodsky, sharing concerns about her family, friends and son, Leon Picard, who was severely injured serving with the French army.
