8 Cubed 2018
8 composers x 8 scientists x 8 performers
8³ started as a PRiSM Collaboration between Manchester Metropolitan University Scientists and the RNCM School of Composition. The team that worked on the first iteration of 8³ in 2017-18 included Sam Illingworth from Manchester Metropolitan University, and Dr Michelle Phillips, Professor Adam Gorb and PRiSM Centre Director Professor Emily Howard from the RNCM.
During 2017-18, 8 Manchester Met scientists collaborated with 8 RNCM composers in the creation of 8 new compositions involving 8 RNCM performers. The world premiere performance of the new works took place during British Science Week 2018 at the Royal Northern College of Music. You can find out more about each piece from the links below.
2020 saw the second iteration of 8³ in collaboration with scientists from the University of Liverpool. 8 new works were recorded by The Riot Ensemble. See here for more details.
