Music and identity construction in Grenada, West Indies: A music education perspective

Danielle-SirekIn Grenada music is a powerful force in representing and constructing identity.

Small (1998) places the meaning of ‘musicking’ in ‘exploring, affirming, celebrating’ relationships with others.

It is through these relationships that Danielle suggests that identities are formed. Her thesis sought to illuminate some aspects of the influence of ‘musicking’ in Grenada upon identity.
