Jennie Hartley
Jennie’s research into music education looks at composition in the higher key stages of secondary schools, with particular focus on KS5 (A level).
The project aims to link improvisation with listening and composing in the context of music that is new and unfamiliar to the students.
Areas of special interest and relevance include processes of creativity, conscious and unconscious decision-making, ownership and critical self-evaluation, the language of aesthetics as used in the assessment of the final product and the process of creating it, and how listening can also be part of the creative or imaginative process.
