Investigating contemporary Persian piano repertoire and its performance

Many composers throughout history have used cultural elements in their music.

Kiana’s work looked into the performance and interpretation of such elements with a focus on piano works by Iranian composers who have explored the potential of Persian music in a western classical music paradigm.

Her aim was to identify what musical links with Persian music could be drawn out in this repertoire and to what extent the study could influence its performance.
