Portfolio of compositions: The un-tapped textural potential of the brass band through contemporary music
I’m currently working on a new work for brass band, singer and electronics, funded by a grant from PRS for Music. The piece will be the focal point of the 140th anniversary of the Wingates Band, in a series of anniversary concerts and celebration CD. The work will also feature Tony Berry of the Houghton Weavers and recorded accounts from musicians who have been involved with the band during their careers. The music itself is heavily folk-influenced and will also include live sound manipulation in some of the brass solos.
I am also composing a concerto grosso for the band, to feature three previous Wingates euphonium soloists (and also RNCM Alumni) – David Thornton, Gary Curtin and Lewis Musson. In addition to these projects I worked on two pieces performed at the British Museum in July, a solo work for tenor horn for the RNCM 40th anniversary concert in March and am collaborating with an author for an external project.
